Domus development work. What began with analysis of aboriginal art and architecture progressed to the understanding housing in Arab desert climates, namely Egyptian, with the strong emphasis on enclosed space, cave like dwelling where the air is kept cool and shaded from sun by the thick shear walls, made from predominately mud brick mass. Taking the interplay of Barrel vaults against one another, the Louis Kahn Kimbell art Museum was looked at as an example of vaulting solutions.

Here are some wonderful shots i took in Noashima, which is basically an art island in Japan, the spaces not only look beautiful but are also functional, catering as wet weather shelters.

This is the tea ceremony room of Katsura Palace in Japan, i think the use of timbers to frame the setting is very effective and picturesque, Given the size requirements of Minima and its appropriation into Domus, i think that view is a fundamental design narrative. For Domus and especially the Norhern Territory site such a discipline to the design would no doubt better the architecture.

Yeah!

No more drawing in photoshop! This is just an idea for Domus. Looking somewhat like a fan it allows fluid airflow and separates private and public areas. It also mixes local materials in a smooth palette.

Minima Final

Minima Final: For minima i decided to ground my design from the materials that were used to construct the model, i strictly stuck to timbers and balsa wood, i found this may somewhat restrict the conceptual aspect of minima, i felt this was necessary to help execute the work, because ideas keep coming and coming and causing change. Change may be good in some aspects but it was not needed to execute the work. I enjoyed using the balsa wood as well, it allowed a great level of detail and structure to be expressed. With the model you could see it and feel it and believe in the space, i felt this would greatly help in the presentation, it was a tedious model to build especially the flooring system, but it was a model worth doing. I felt that minima could be more than shrinking living space to claustrophobic instances, i wanted minima to be about a comfy private space, where the space were ergonomically scaled to the minimum proportions of myself, this helped execute the design and bring the model to realization.

This was my minima building. The minutes taken from the presentation area listed below:
- picked site: pier in Geelong
-Influence into design
-inspired by ships, sea, sails, inspired with shapes of boat
-weather proofing was a major consideration
-caravan style construction
-ventilation strips attached
- orientation of the site to keep in sun/keep out sun
-good 3d model, model looks misleading bigger than repreze
-take an idea and work it
-use of sun to create sustainable building-use of wind flow (cross ventilation)
-editing the process was good

Minima

Minima model, I don't think I'm brave enough to put the drawings up after the thrashing they got last week...

Minima concept work: The design of minima poses several problems, i find reluctance in designing or nominating a piece of architecture to the point of punitive living space, i am therefore taking a more larger scheme to effort. Although technically it may be viewed as less minima by design, i feel that the minima aspect will be located within the movement of space, and granting minimal space for the 4 different activities to be executed within the whole of minima. The location is in the main quad of the Waterfront campus.

North Melbourne Station

Does anyone have any pictures of what the north melbourne redevelopment will look like? someone told me they had seen a few pictures but i havent been able to find any. ive heard that like with spencer st station, theyre planning to do something with the roof. anyone know anything?

Minima Posters

here are the posters from my minima project. im fairly happy with the result, i can see a few things that let me down during presentation. hows everyone feeling about their own?

project 2: minima: final presentation 1

Tablinum Project

yeah n i forgot to post these last time so here you go!

MINIMA project

so last time i posted my development work. this time im posting the final result of that process.
i think what i got out of this project is "refinment of ideas" not to let one idea contain the whole design. to resolve the problems i had with the amalgamation of the 3 main roads explored i took the shape back to basics and explored the simple geometry of it. and in my opinion i am certain that i was able to grasp what minima is about and what this project wanted us to achieve once again this is my opinion. and i do appreciate any comments people might add to mine! so for now these are my posters and a few photos of my model.
